I would turn the question of 'do we have time for beauty' around. Does beauty need to fit our needs? Tabloids work for commuters because they can be folded easily while standing and read, because the text is broken into short paras for easy reading. Everything is optimised for the reader. An essay or a long read doesn't work on a busy commute. But it works perfectly for a Sunday morning with coffee by the window. I used to think that beauty is in and of itself. It is not. It is at the service of the beholder.
